For over 50 years, whenever I handled a 5 gallon bucket for picking berries, feeding animals, or picking things up, I have placed my fingers in the crevices that in the bucket about a 1/3 of the way down. Then I’m able to hold the bucket TILTED and not have the confounded wire handle get in the way… like it always does.

But as I get older, grabbing the bucket by the crevices in bucket gets harder and harder. As well, this is hardly a solution for working all day.

When feeding animals, the usual way this is done is to HOLD the wire handle, then put your knee or other hand on the bottom of the bucket so it tilts. This way the wire handle is not in the way and the animal can get its mouth into the bucket to eat.

In either case, the 5 gallon bucket is only a partial solution.

Material and Construction (Strength)

The Bear Grip is made from PET-G, the same material that plastic soda bottles are made. It is very strong and stand up against very heavy loads. It is water proof and is OK to be left in the sun outside.

Bright UV Reactive Color – The MAIN or first color from BearMar is UV reactive bright orange. With a black light you can find at night. During the day, the bright orange color should be easy to find.

Grip and Comfort

BearMar designed the handle so that it is quite large. It won’t cut into your skin. If you are carrying something very heavy there is no stress on your individual joints like the cheap included bucket handle that is on the wire handle.

This large handle allows for carrying and handling a bucket for long periods of time without hurting your hands.

Latching Mechanism

The buckets manufactured in Texas on a process that builds the handle and the latch at the same time. There was no assembly at the factory. Because of this one piece design you will never lose the latching mechanism or have it fall apart. I guess you could run over it by a tractor, but even then it is pretty tough!

The latch is gravity operated. You simply catch the lip (the one where the wire handle attaches) with the “catcher” portion of the Bear Grip, then you just pull the handle up and towards the center of the bucket. The latch automatically LIFTS itself over the top rim of the bucket then drops into place. This works so well, that I have do double check it every time. Very smooth.

Removable and Reusable

Because of the simple gravity operated latch, to remove the Bear Grip, you just touch the bottom of the latch gently, lift and move the handle away from the center of the bucket. It is just that easy.

Secure Attachment

I have been using the Bear Grip for many months now and I am constantly amazed at how secure the latch holds the Bear Grip to the bucket.

Installing a Very Strong Removable Handle

To install , simply hook the bottom grabber on the bottom lip – the one that holds the wire handles – then simply pull up and towards the center of the bucket. The handle should snap into place readily.

When picking fruits and vegetables, it is far more convenient to have the wire handle out of the way so that you can harvest the fruits, place into the bucket all without continuing to fight with the wire handle. This is a real game changer for long morning and days of harvesting. Plus with the big comfortable handles harvesting can be a joy.

The first time I decided I needed this, I was harvesting “stickers” using the BearMar Burr Buster. The wire handle kept getting in my way. Even worse, if I wasn’t careful, I would dump a bunch of stickers right on my hand.

Heavy Load Hoisting

If you have a really heavy load in a Homer Bucket, they are strong. However, you are limited by ALL the force from the weight of the bucket being concentrated at the two points where the wire handle joins to the buckets. That is a lot of pressure focused onto two very small targets.

With the Bear Grip, all that force is spread out over 10-20-30x the area, which reduces the “point stress” on any one area to something that won’t ruin your bucket.

Using TWO Bear Grips you can use two hands for heavy buckets

If you had something SO HEAVY that you had to use two hands, you could purchase TWO of the Bear Grips and use two hands. I even thing you could attach ropes to the handles and use as a rope bucket handle.
